Top Arab Superstars to Entertain at Sharjah’s First Comedy Night at Al Majaz Amphitheatre

Top Arab and international superstars and stand-up comedians are set to entertain and tickle the UAE’s funny bone at the first Sharjah comedy night, Comedia 3al Wagef, being hosted by Sharjah Media Centre at Al Majaz Amphitheatre next month, on Friday, February 17th

The one-of-its-kind live show will bring together celebrated names such Ali Al Sayed, pioneer of stand-up comedy in the UAE and ‘Comedian of the Year,’ according to Esquire Middle East 2016, Bader Saleh, the YouTube sensation who boasts over 3 million subscribers to his hit show, Esh Elly, as well as Al Laila ma Bader Saleh on MBC, Fahad Al Butairi, known as Saudi Arabia’s ‘Seinfeld’ and one of the stars of the Emirati film, From A to B, Ebrahim Al Khairallah, the finalist of Arabs Got Talent and the funnyman known for the popular hand puppet, Temsa7, Kuwait’s Ahmad Al Shimmari, another YouTube superstar in his own right and host of his own comedy club in Kuwait, and finally Egypt’s Mohammed Morgan, our fresh face of the year and star of the Kit Kat Comedy Break.

Speaking up about the first Comedia 3al Wagef night, Tariq Saeed Allay, Director of Sharjah Media Centre, pointed out that stand-up comedy has been increasingly popular in the UAE and the wider Middle East over the last decade or so.  With YouTube emerging as a convenient and everyman’s platform and medium, artists from all across the Arab world are discovering a fast growing and receptive audience that is always looking out for a good laugh, he said.

As part of its efforts to promote a culture of arts and appreciation of music in the Emirate and the UAE, Al Majaz Amphitheatre, managed by Sharjah Media Centre, has been regularly hosting top Arab and international artists and musical icons since its inception in 2012. 

Some of the top names who performed at Al Majaz Amphitheatre in 2016 included Yanni, Marcel Khalife, Mohammed Abdu and Jolio Iglesias, said the SMC Director.  The year 2017 began on an exciting note with top Arab and international artists performing at Al Majaz Amphitheatre as part of the Sharjah World Music Festival, being hosted from 6-14 January by Shurooq.
